The links below are descriptions about how and why certain multidigit strategies and algorithms work. They are designed to both help you understand how the strategies work as well as provide ways for you to help your child at home. One key mathematical goal is for your child to gain a strong number sense and to become flexible with using a variety of strategies. The math in one strategy is different than another strategy. Being comfortable with more than one means your child has a more solid mathematical foundation to stand on as new mathematical ideas are developed.
